Beginner Blues Series @ Wednesday Night Hop [Palo Alto] (Week 2)

Level: Beginners with no prior dance experience, intermediates welcomed!

Series Topic: From Harlem Ballrooms to West Coast Blues Bars

Class Description:

Blues dancing is a diverse family of dances rooted in an equally wide-ranging and varied genre of blues music. In this series, we'll start at the intersection of Blues and Swing, exploring how both the music and the dances migrated and evolved across the United States over time.

You'll learn the basics of Savoy Walk, Boogie, Texas Shuffle, and more – discovering how all of these dances have similar underlying Blues Dance values and technique while also maintaining their own unique style, shaping, rhythm, and character based on the music they developed alongside. By the end of the series, you'll have the skills to dance to a variety of blues music, including some of the songs you’ll hear at a live night of jazz music!

PRE-REQUISITES: No previous dance experience necessary and no partner required. We will layer complexity over our foundations, building skills to dance with anyone at any level while stretching the edges of our own creativity.
